An Afternoon at Brunch & Cake

Today was another rainy day in Barcelona. The type of day that makes you want to just curl up under the covers with a good book and never get out of bed. Luckily for me, our upstairs neighbors are putting in new floors, so I was woken up by the melodic sounds of heavy machinery early in the morning.

After class, we hopped on the metro on our quest to find what is apparently one of the best brunch places in Barcelona, Brunch & Cake. However, as we were walking to the restaurant, two of our friends messaged us to let us know that there was a two-hour wait and that we should find a different place to eat.

And at this point, Barcelona Miracle Two happened.

We decided we would put our names on the list just in case and then walk to the other restaurant to see how long the wait was there. However, when we told the hostess the size of our party she said she had a table ready and we walked right in. We literally did not have to wait at all. It was amazing.

Once we got inside, the cold and dreary streets faded away, and we were welcomed into a warm and bright room filled with cakes and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Some people had to eat their brunch out in the rain, but we got a cozy little table right by the kitchen. Like I said, it was a miracle.

After looking through the menu (and trying not to drool), we decided on our dishes, which included an acai bowl, avocado toast, brie sandwiches and Nutella french toast.

Brie, strawberries and caramelized onions on pretzel bread, and a side salad with poached eggs, potatoes, tomatoes and strawberries.

The acai bowl came in an actual pineapple.

One of the most delicious chocolate cakes I have ever had.

I’m not ashamed to say that I ate my entire plate of food and then (basically) a whole piece of cake. Although the weather may not have been the best today, I am so glad that we decided to brave the elements and made the trip to Brunch & Cake.
